Landmark gathering to seek Reydon solutions
Published on 26th October 2012
A date has been set for a landmark gathering which will see members of the Reydon community and affected property owners meet with officials from the Waveney Pathfinder project.
Following a commitment by the Project Board to a refreshed and collaborative approach, a first workshop will debate a variety of important issues in an effort to move the project forward. It will welcome a representative group of Reydon residents and the affected property-owners at Easton Bavents to consider the project and will seek, as a priority, the delivery of an outcome which is agreeable to all.
The first workshop will take place on Friday November 23 at the Reydon Youth Club and the project team is now inviting people to take part.
The Pathfinder Board met on October 10 and representatives of Reydon and Easton Bavents were invited to collectively agree an acceptable way forward. It was agreed to run workshops designed to find solutions by building a co-operative and innovative approach to the issue. This followed an earlier consultation during which concerns were raised by residents about the project.
A spokesperson for the Pathfinder Project said: "As we have said before, we are fully aware of the strong feelings in Reydon and this first workshop is a logical and transparent next step. Ultimately, we want to find a solution which all interested parties can accept and it is important that we consider and discuss the options and the obstacles in an open and frank manner. It is an emotive and complicated issue and hopefully, with greater understanding on all sides, this workshop will begin to deliver results."
The Waveney Pathfinder Project was originally set up by Defra to develop innovative solutions for adapting to coastal change. In Waveney, this included the vulnerable community at Easton Bavents which was successfully chosen to establish what options there are for managing the effects of coastal erosion and its impacts on community life and businesses.
The first workshop is from, 10am-3pm at the Reydon Youth Club, Wangford Road, Reydon, Southwold IP18 6PA on Friday November 23.
Anyone who would like to attend and take part should contact David Savill, Waveney Pathfinder Project Officer to register their interest by Friday 16th of November. Call 01502 523343 or email
