Seeking views from local sports clubs
Published on 18th October 2012
A special survey for sports clubs has been set up by Suffolk Coastal and Waveney to help the two Councils provide even better support in the future.
The online audit, created by the Councils' shared Sports Development Team, is aimed at all clubs, however big or small, and whatever age groups they are serving. It could provide a vital snapshot of the range of activities and skills that the hundreds, if not thousands, of local clubs are offering.
"The information we are seeking is very important as it will help us tailor our resources to meet specific needs of local clubs. By identifying where clubs need more help or advice, we can do our best to help fill that void and so allow the clubs to grow and prosper," said Cllr Geoff Holdcroft, Suffolk Coastal's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Economic Development.
"In the wake of this magnificent sporting year, there appears to be more people wanting to take part in sport, and our clubs have a key role in meeting that demand. The reality facing sports clubs is no different than the one facing us and everyone else - their resources are tight and probably reducing, which makes it more essential that we can help them maximise their potential," added Cllr Holdcroft.
The questions asked in the survey covers a wide range of topics from what the club offers, and what members they have, through to how skilled are their coaches and whether they offer activities to disabled people.
The clubs are also being asked specifically if they would like more information about advertising and marketing, volunteer recruitment and support, school and community links, attracting new members, funding and grant aid advice, club accreditation support, disability awareness training or business advice.
The survey will close on Friday, November 30 and can be found on www.surveymonkey.com/s/SportsClubSurvey2012. Any club that wants more information can contact Active Waveney on 01502 523010 or email activewaveney@waveney.gov.uk.
The information gained about clubs will be used to help produce the first joint Suffolk Coastal and Waveney Sports Club Directory.
