Bungay Pool and Gym will be hosting brand new 8th edition lifeguard courses, giving candidates the opportunity to learn a lifesaving skill that will come in handy for the rest of their lives.

As an RLSS (Royal Life Saving Society) IQL Approved Training Centre, Bungay Pool holds National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) courses to train those interested in becoming a lifeguard. These courses take place over nine consecutive Sundays, from 5pm to 9pm. The NPLQ is the nationally recognised qualification required to work as a lifeguard in swimming pools, and the course teaches the principles of lifesaving, water rescue skills, CPR and first aid.

Being a lifeguard offers a fantastic foundation to a career in the leisure industry, flexible hours and a fun opportunity to get fit. Besides being 16 years old prior to commencing the course, candidates need to be able to jump/dive into deep water; swim 200m on their front and back at a reasonable level; swim 50m in no more than 60 seconds; surface dive to the floor of the pool; and tread water for 30 seconds in deep water.

In order to complete the course, participants must be able to attend every session. Places are limited, so to gain this professional qualification or for more information contact Bungay Pool and Gym on (01986) 895014 (option '0'). The cost of the course, including all materials and examination, is £250.00.

The IQL, which manages the NPLQ on behalf of the Royal Life Saving Society UK, provides more information on becoming a lifeguard.
