Waveney District Council Leader Cllr Colin Law says he is 'shocked' to hear that the future of the Lowestoft Seafront Airshow is under threat, however he is hopeful that a solution can be found.

Citing poor weather conditions and lower than expected contributions from members of the public, the Airshow Organising Committee have warned that it is unlikely that an event will take place next year.

However, were the Airshow to benefit from improved sponsorship, there is a chance it could still take place.

Cllr Law said: "I am shocked to hear the announcement from the Air Show Organising Committee and it would be a very great shame if the event was to be cancelled. However I know that work will continue to save the event and I personally believe that no stone will be left unturned by Paul Bayfield and his team. This is one of the town's great events and I imagine it will not disappear without a very great struggle."

Paul Bayfield, the Managing Director of the Airshow Company said: "We would still dearly like to think that a benefactor or a generous sponsor or sponsors would come forward. We have until the end of September, when bids for RAF aircraft have to be submitted - to find a saviour."
