Working for Waveney District Council
For permanent and temporary employees there are generous holiday entitlements, occupational sick pay, maternity pay schemes, a contributory final salary based pension scheme, health workplace initiatives (i.e. fitness assessments and flu jabs), and flexible working arrangements, including flexi-time, job sharing and part-time working are available - depending on the type of job and the needs of the service.
Staff receive a minimum of 23 days leave per year and can receive up to 32 days, depending on the individual's length of continuous local government service. Annual leave and public holidays are calculated for part-time employees, job sharers and temporary employees on a pro-rata basis, according to the number of hours worked per week.
Maternity, paternity & parental leave
The generous maternity, paternity and parental leave allowances exceed the statutory minimum.
Final salary pension scheme
We offer a Local Government Pension Scheme. Contributions range from 5.5% to 7.5% of pensionable pay and pensions are based on your total pension scheme membership and final pay. Our pension scheme is a statutory funded scheme and very secure because its benefits are defined and set out in law.
Local government is no longer a 9am to 5pm activity. The Council operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme. This gives employees and managers more flexibility in how they work to meet their own needs and the needs of the service. Depending where you work you may be able to take up to two flexi days off per month. The various service areas adopt different working patterns and employees can fit working hours around their own commitments.
Learning and development
We provide learning and development opportunities for all levels of staff, covering training for work, specific topics and general management courses. We also support training to achieve professional qualifications.
Free car park
There are a number of car parks located around council buildings where staff can park free of charge.
