Keeping you safe out and about

Making the town centre a secure place

Waveney District Council and Suffolk Police, local businesses and retailers all work together to make sure that Lowestoft Town Centre is a place that everyone can enjoy safely day and night.

The many safety features include:

  • Fixed CCTV cameras in the town centre and seafront areas of Lowestoft
  • Radio links between licensed premises and shops to the CCTV control room and local police
  • Nightsafe Partnership running a banning scheme so those misbehaving on a night out can be banned for the duration from various pubs/clubs within the Nightsafe Partnership
  • Use of Drinking Banning Orders for those causing problems that can lead to a ban from entering any premises that serves alcohol in a town centre or even district wide area
  • Designated Public Place Order in force to allow alcohol to be confiscated from those acting in an anti-social manner
  • Portable ION Tracker used by the police, which is a devise used to test if a person has been in contact with drugs and will often be used alongside police drug detection dogs.
  • St Johns Ambulance First Aid Triage scheme

We work with Lowestoft Town Pastors, which is a group of volunteers (drawn from a number of churches) who can assist people in need of support during the evening within the town centre. This could be down to consuming too much alcohol or simply because they have forgotten which hotel they are staying at.

We have a variety of measures to use against those misbehaving, including charges, cautions, penalty notices, youth reprimands and final warnings. We will strongly pursue people who misbehave.
