The Annual Audit Letter summarises the more important matters arising from the District Audit Commission's audit and comments on other current issues.

The Annual Audit Letter is an important means by which the public might learn about the Authority's stewardship of public funds.

The letter has to be publicised and made accessible to the public. The Council is required:

  • to publish the Annual Audit Letter as soon as reasonably practicable following its receipt 
  • to keep copies of the letter available for purchase by any person on payment of a reasonable sum.

The key messages contained in the Annual Audit are summarised in italics at the start of each section and key issues for Council members to address are highlighted as recommendations in the letter.
