Calculating council tax
Council tax banding explained
Domestic properties in England and Wales were valued by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), and not by Waveney District Council.
Your property was valued at the amount it would have sold for on the open market on 1 April 1991.
The table below shows the different bands. Underneath you can check the band for your property.
| Council Tax B and | Property Valuation from | Property Valuation to |
| A | 0 | £40,000 |
| B | £40,000 | £52,000 |
| C | £52,000 | £68,000 |
| D | £68,000 | £88,000 |
| E | £88,000 | £120,000 |
| F | £120,000 | £160,000 |
| G | £160,000 | £320,000 |
| H | £320,000 |
The valuers assumed the following things when they valued your property:
- When the property was sold it would be empty
- Houses would be sold freehold
- Flats would be sold on 99-year leases
- The property itself and any shared parts were in reasonable condition
Each domestic property within the Waveney District is shown on a valuation list as being in one of these bands. You can view a copy of the list online via the Valuation Office website.
