Gateway to Homechoice
Councillors agreed to join the Homechoice Partnership in October 2010 with seven other eastern region authorities, meaning people in Waveney can more easily seek social housing. Waveney District Council has adopted the Gateway to Homechoice Sub Regional Allocations Policy and the Council's specific details have been added onto the policy.
The change means that WDC's Choice Based Lettings Scheme will now partner Babergh, Ipswich, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk Coastal, Maldon, Braintree and Colchester.
This gives residents more choice and mobility in terms of where they want to live, with housing now available in all areas. The new system also utilises online applications making the process far simpler. More than 80% of applications are made online and telephone support will be available for those without electronic access.
The change came about after Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Waveney agreed to end their partnership, and this presented an opportunity for Waveney to stand back and reflect on its future direction, with residents and homeseekers in mind.
Full details are available on the Gateway to Homechoice website.

What is Help to Buy?
If you want to purchase a home of your own, but can't afford to buy on the open market, Help to Buy could be your way onto the property ladder. The Government has created the Help to Buy scheme to help you take your first steps into home ownership.
There are a number of Help to Buy products designed to make buying a home more affordable. You can buy a home using one of the home ownership options, or rent a home at less than the market rent, allowing you to save for a future deposit.
