Filthy and verminous premises
Waveney District Council is required by the provisions of the Public Health Act 1936 to investigate complaints about premises which are in such a filthy condition, that they could be a health hazard or verminous.
If, after inspection, the premises are considered filthy or verminous, we will serve a notice, in accordance with our enforcement policy, on the owner and/or occupier of the premises requiring steps to be taken to remedy the problem.
We also have powers that enable us to carry out the work in default and recover the costs from the owner or occupier.
If you suspect that your property suffers from pests, you should seek advice from a qualified pest control company, details of which can be found in all local directories.
Waveney District Council recommends Command Pest Control, which can offer discounts for residents on certain government benefits.
If you have a complaint or would like some advice, please contact the Private Sector Housing Team.
