Town Twinning developed mainly after the Second World War to promote mutual understanding and friendship.

Three of Waveney’s five towns are twinned:

Lowestoft with Plaisir in France

Halesworth with Bouchain in France and Eitorf in Germany

Halesworth and Bouchain became twinned in 1982. Bouchain was already twinned with Eitorf in Germany, and to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the French/German twinning, Halesworth also twinned with Eitorf in 1994.
