Mutford Lock

Providing a gateway between Oulton Broad and the North Sea for the local community and visitors to the district, Mutford Lock is situated in Oulton Broad and acts as a gateway between the River Waveney and Lake Lothing (entrance to the North Sea). Oulton Broad forms part of the Broads network.

Facilities at Mutford Lock:

  • 2 x 2 lock gates
  • lifting road bridge (A1117)
  • control room

In close proximity to Oulton Broad Yacht Station there are a range of restaurants, public houses, hotels, local shopping and a frequent train service that runs into the town centre and the award winning South Beach areas of Lowestoft.

When is Mutford Lock open?

Passage through the locks and road bridge:

1 April - 31 October:

  • Monday to Friday 8.00am to 12 noon and 1.00pm to 5.30pm
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays 8.00am to 12 noon and 1.00pm to 7.30pm
1 November - 31 March:
  • Monday to Friday 8.00am to 11.00am
Craft booking 24 hours in advance will be locked through.

Providing permanent and short stay moorings for the local community and visitors to the district, Southwold Harbour is situated in an area that is designated as an area of outstanding beauty and adjacent to the Southwold Denes Beach. Southwold has a historic town centre, which is within easy walking distance and is the home of the famous Adnams brewery.

Situated in North Suffolk Southwold is ideally located to explore nearby towns such as Lowestoft, Kessingland,Walberswick, Aldeburgh, Snape, and Beccles. If you're looking for a quiet relaxing holiday Southwold is the place to be. Southwold boasts two award winning beaches skirted with the famous 'Southwold Beach Huts'.

In recent years Southwold has become a popular destination for film crews with several television adverts being filmed, an episode of Grange Hill, part of the film Iris which starred Kate Winslett, and an episode of Kavaghner QC staring John Thaw, and Michael Palin spent several days in Southwold filming one of his journeys, to name just a few.

Moorings are available all year round for visiting vessels.

Southwold Harbour can be very busy during the summer months and therefore advanced booking is strongly recommended during this period.
