Regeneration can be defined as “the broad process of reversing
physical, economic and social decline in an area where market focus
will not do this without intervention” (HM Treasury, Department for
Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform).
Whilst regeneration activity may be recognised through physical
actions, such as development of land, buildings and transport
systems, critically regeneration must recognise and align with the
aspirations and needs of the local community. Effective,
sustainable economic, cultural and social regeneration must be
holistic and seek to address community deficits whether; skills
& education, housing, health, or environmental.
The vision for Waveney is set out in the Waveney Sustainable
Communities Strategy (2007), a strategy produced by the Waveney
Local Strategic Partnership. The vision is to have:
“Prosperous, attractive and vibrant communities with good
access to jobs, services and facilities and where everybody can
feel safe, be healthy and happy.”
Waveney District Council’s strategic vision is to provide:
“a safe, clean, attractive and prosperous environment for
our communities” To achieve this vision WDC has identified
Regeneration as one its seven core corporate priorities. Details of
how WDC proposes to deliver its vision for Regeneration can be
