The Core Strategy is the first Development Plan Document to be adopted and sets down the vision, objectives, spatial strategy and core policies that will guide development for the period to 2021. All other Development Plan Documents will need to conform with the Core Strategy.

After widespread consultation the Council received acknowledgement from the Government-appointed Planning Inspector that its Core Strategy is sound, subject to a few minor changes. These minor changes did not require any amendment to the Submission version of the Sustainability Appraisal. Following consideration of the Inspector's Report the Council formally adopted the Core Strategy on 29th January 2009. The Council would like to thank all those who contributed to the preparation of this document.
