Severe Weather Warning
Update |
The decision has been taken to close Nicholas Everitt Park to
ensure public safety
Waveney District Council’s operational teams have
responded to a number of incidents resulting from the severe
weather today.
The decision has been taken to close Nicholas Everitt Park to
ensure public safety and the Council would also like to remind
members of the public, where possible, to avoid areas such as parks
and cemeteries today.
A spokesperson for Waveney District Council said:
“A poplar tree has fallen from the play area at Nicholas Everitt
Park into the Boulevard car park and two further trees have been
identified as unstable within the park. As a result, the decision
has been made to close Nicholas Everitt Park and the car park to
ensure public safety. We will provide an update when it is
considered that the area is safe for visitors."
“We are expecting additional damage to trees in our parks, open
spaces, cemeteries and woodland areas so we would ask the public to
refrain from entering these areas until such time as we can make
the appropriate inspections to ensure the areas are safe."
“We will continue to work with the police and highway authority
throughout the day and will monitor the situation to ensure public
safety. We will also provide updates for the public as and when we
receive
them.”
