WDC have had to deal with a number of incidents resulting from the
severe weather this morning
Waveney District Council’s operational teams have had to
deal with a number of incidents resulting from the severe weather
this morning. Members of the public are reminded to avoid areas
such as parks and cemeteries today, if at all
possible.
The main cause for concern is falling trees and / or branches and
officers stationed in these high-risk areas to observe and offer
advice, have reported that many people are still visiting.
A spokesperson for Waveney District Council said: “So far, the
Council has received ten reports of trees either fallen or
dangerous. This helps illustrate the importance of our warning to
the public, to avoid visiting high-risk areas for their own safety.
Although it is forecast that the winds will die down later today,
the damage caused this morning still has to be assessed and so the
warning remains in place.
“Debris on the A146 near Rookery Park has been cleared, as has the
area around the large willow on Tom Crisp Way. Officers are
currently dealing with a large tree that has fallen on a parked car
by the doctor’s surgery in Park Road.
“We will continue to work with the police and highway authority
throughout the day and will monitor the situation to ensure public
safety. We will also provide updates for the public as and when we
receive
them.”
