Village of the Year Nominations Required
Waveney District Council is seeking nominations for the Waveney round of the Suffolk Village of the Year Awards 2008

Waveney District Council is seeking nominations for the Waveney round of the Calor Suffolk Village of the Year Awards 2008. Representatives from villages across the district are asked to consider if their village could compete for the title.

The awards are organised by the Suffolk Association of Local Councils, in partnership with County and District Councils. This year, they are open to Villages with between 501-3000 local government electors.

The Beach Radio Help an East Coast Child

There is a prize of £200 for the winner of the ‘Best Village in Waveney.’ In addition, Beach Radio’s, Help an East Coast Child Appeal has donated a special award of £250 for the village that is judged to be best at taking the needs of children into account.

The closing date for entries is Friday 2 May 2008 and judging will take place in June this year. The three villages in the County with the highest scores will go forward to be judged for Suffolk Village of the Year, where the first prize is a cheque for £1,000, a Calor plaque, certificate and a selection of plants donated by Notcutts Nurseries.

Jo McCallum, Co-ordinator of the Waveney District Council round of judging said: “This is an opportunity to celebrate all the hard work that goes on in local communities. We know there is a wealth of activity and community spirit in our local villages and it is important this is recognised. This is your opportunity to shout about what you are doing and what you have achieved and I’d like to encourage everybody to apply.”

Forms can be completed on line here or you can telephone 01502 523186 for further details or to request a form.

Judging was particularly tight last year, but Homersfield was declared the winner and went on to represent Waveney in the Suffolk-wide round of judging. Westhall was the worthy winner of the ‘Help an East Coast Child Award’ for its coordination of activities for children.
