Support Recycle week - Recycle your support!
As part of Recycle Week 2008 (June 2nd – 9th), a national call has gone out to “recycle one more thing”

As part of Recycle Week 2008 (June 2nd – 9th), a national call has gone out to “recycle one more thing” and Waveney District Council is asking for your support – literally!

Council’s across the County will be encouraging Bra Recycling as part of a Suffolk Waste Partnership initiative for Recycle Week 2008. The theme of the national campaign is getting people to recycle just one more thing, in an effort to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.

Waveney District Council is installing a number of eye-catching, pink bra banks in location across the district for the month of June. So, please dig out all your unwanted, unflattering, and ill-fitting bras and encourage your family, friends and colleagues to do the same!

As well as helping the environment, bras that are collected during the campaign are being sent to West Africa where they are reused and recycled. The project will also raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, as a donation will be made to the charity for each kilo of material.

The banks can be found at the following locations for the month of June:

  • Beccles Sports Centre, Ringsfield Road, Beccles
  • Bungay Library, Wharton Street, Bungay
  • Halesworth Library, Bridge Street, Halesworth
  • Kirkley High School, Kirkley Run, Lowestoft
  • Lowestoft Library, Clapham Road South, Lowestoft
Councillor Ken Sale, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “This year Recycle Week is about highlighting the extra things we can easily do to recycle more and increase the impact of our recycling efforts. Sometimes we don’t realise how much of our household waste can be easily recycled and reused, or we think that recycling one more thing won’t make a real difference. If we all take the time to think before we reach for the bin, it will have a genuine impact on the amount of waste that goes to landfill.

“To help residents make the best use of the recycling service brought to their doorstep, we have produced lists detailing what can go in each of the three bins. I’m sure that many people are unaware of the breadth of material that we can collect. Why not check them out and recycle one more thing.

For details of what is accepted in each of your three bins visit the Refuse and Recycling pages of this site. Alternatively, you can put your recycling questions to one of the team. Email: recycling@waveney.gov.uk  or call 01502 523 561.
