Waveney District Council is calling everybody to the centre
of Lowestoft on Sunday to give the town’s footballing heroes the
recognition they so richly deserve.
Final preparations are underway for a celebration of the
achievements of Lowestoft Football Club. Although the final result
did not go Town’s way, Waveney District Council would like to
reward the club, not only for their performance on the pitch in a
memorable FA Vase run, but for the way in which they raised the
profile of the town and spirit in the community.
The event will take place this Sunday 18 May and will start at
10.45am with the players, coaching staff and officials setting off
from Crown Meadow by open top bus. The team will then travel by
police escort along Rotterdam Road and Denmark Road to arrive at
Bevan Street for 11.00am.
Upon arrival in the town centre the team will be joined by Kirkley
High School girls Football team - who recently won the Girl’s Under
16 National Schools Football Championship - to march through the
town, led by the 469 (Lowestoft) Squadron Air Training Corps. The
Lowestoft “Town Management Partnership” and Britten Centre are
hoping to decorate the town Blue and White for the parade.
WDC would like to encourage the local community to gather in the
town centre to welcome the team and celebrate their achievement.
The parade will then stop at the Britten Centre where the members
of the team will address the crowds with the help of the Beach
Radio and Beach Bunny.
The parade will then carry on through the town to Milton Road East
where the team will head to the Town Hall for a civic reception,
hosted by Members of the Council.
