Waveney District Council and Everyday Swim, Suffolk’s latest
initiative to get more people in the UK swimming, is offering
participants in its current pilot scheme the added incentive of
good company and a nice cup of tea, if they take to the water over
the next few weeks.
At the start of June, Waveney District Council announced an
exciting two-phased project to remove the barriers that discourage
people from swimming and promote the sport as part of a healthier
lifestyle. The first phase offers people aged 45 and over the
chance to take part in swimming activities completely free of
charge and runs until 22 July.
Over the coming weeks, as part of the scheme, a number of drop-in
sessions will take place at each venue to enable participants to
meet up after their free swim for a cup of tea or coffee and
biscuits. These friendly, informal sessions will take place at the
following times:
Bungay Pool at 1.45pm to 2.45pm on Thursday 3 July, Thursday 10
July and Thursday 17 July.
Waterlane Pool at 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Monday 7 July, Friday 11
July and Wednesday 16 July.
The really good news is that there is no need to book in advance.
Participants in the scheme can just turn up, have a swim and then
relax with friends. The Active Wellbeing Coordinator has
facilitated the sessions on the 3, 7, 11 and 17 July. Those on 10
and 16 July are facilitated in partnership with the Older People
Project and Age Concern.
People aged 45 and over can register for a free leisure card at
either of the centres. It will entitle you to free casual swimming
until 22 July 2008. Call
