Swimmers who participated
in Swimathon 2008 at Bungay Pool & Gym have raised over £2,500
for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon
Foundation.
Jenny Lytton, Duty Manager from Bungay Pool & Gym said: “We are
delighted that so many local people got involved and swam for Marie
Curie Cancer Care and we are thrilled with how much money was
raised. Swimathon is always a fun event and 31 swimmers took to the
water and raised over £2,500. We came 12th in the Anglia rankings
out of 37 participating venues and 122nd in the national rankings.
We’re just looking forward to an even bigger turnout for next
year’s Swimathon from 16-19 April 2009!”
The money raised in Bungay contributed to almost £1.7 million
raised across the UK and will help ensure terminally ill patients
receive the best possible end-of-life care free of charge. Marie
Curie Cancer care will receive 70% of funds raised by participants
in the 2008 Swimathon and The Swimathon Foundation receives the
remaining 30%.
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing, totally
free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home
supported by their families. Please visit www.mariecurie.org.uk for
more information.
The Swimathon Foundation aims to support local communities in their
efforts to promote the benefits of physical activity, particularly
through swimming. Please visit www.swimathonfoundation.org for
further information.
Jenny continued: “I would like to congratulate everyone who swam in
Swimathon 2008 and helped to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer
Care. Your efforts will help to help make a real difference to the
lives of terminally ill cancer patients and their families in the
local community.”
