Severe weather warning for Monday 10 March 2008
Waveney District Council’s operational teams are preparing
to deal with the consequences of the severe weather warning,
predicted for Monday morning.
The Met Office is forecasting Severe
Gales from the South for the morning of Monday 10 March 2008,
accompanied by heavy rain. It is likely that these conditions will
peak around 9am causing disruption to the morning rush hour and
delaying travel to work.
A spokesperson for the
council said: "Likely hazards to avoid are falling roof tiles,
trees and/or branches, so those out and about should beware of
walking too close to wooded areas or old buildings whose roofs are
in poor condition. Parks and cemeteries should be avoided where
possible. The combination of gales and high spring tides will also
cause hazardous conditions on the exposed shoreline.
"Operationally, WDC will
be prepared to provide support and assistance in the community. We
will work with the police and highway authority and will have
resources on standby from Sunday night to deal with any issues that
arise.
"We will monitor the event
throughout and have the ability to close areas that may pose a
risk, such as wooded areas, parks and cemeteries, to ensure public
safety." | |
