Concessionary Fares Scheme

From 1st April 2008 the Concessionary Fares scheme will change to enable travel across the country rather than just within Suffolk.

A new bus pass will be issued which will allow anyone over the age of 60 (or who are entitled to a pass due to disability) to travel without charge.  This is for travel on local buses anywhere in England during off-peak times (9.30 a.m. until 11 p.m. Monday – Friday and all day weekends and bank holidays).

Within Suffolk, all councils have agreed to continue to provide for free travel to bus pass holders at any time of the day for any journey started within the county.  We do advise that you check the timing details for journeys started in other parts of the country as councils are only obliged to offer the service during the off-peak times mentioned above.  Many councils are taking the same decision as Waveney though and extending the availability.

Waveney District Council would like to stress that current bus pass holders will not need to do anything in order to receive the pass - it will automatically be posted out to them.  Customers who do not have a pass but who are over 60 or have a disability can apply for a pass via the council’s web-site or at one of our Customer Service Centres.

We are also pleased to announce that a new Travel Voucher Scheme is being introduced. This is a special service designed for people with disability that prevents them using conventional public transport.
