What is Best
Value?
Best Value aims to ensure that all Councils
throughout England and Wales provide the best possible services for
the money and resources available in line with the priorities set
by the government. The duty of Best Value requires local
authorities (and other best value authorities) to seek to achieve
continuous improvement by having regard to the efficiency,
effectiveness and economy of their service delivery.
Best Value Performance Indicators and why are they
important?
Best Value Performance Indicators are
measures of performance set by central government. They are used to
compare local authorities’ performance and as a means of monitoring
whether there is an improvement in service delivery. They are
reported in the annual Best Value Performance Plan, although from 1
April 2008 they are replaced by a
new
national indicator set.
The Best Value Performance Plan and why is it
important?
With the ending of Best Value Performance Indicators the
requirement to publish a Best Value Performance Plan also finishes.
The last BVPP reports the 2007/08 performance information and can
