The Employment Equality Regulations
came into force in October 2006. It is now illegal to discriminate
against individuals on the basis of age in employment and
training.
There are many similarities between these and other forms of
discrimination, including definitions of direct and indirect
discrimination and rules on victimisation and harassment. The
legislation also recognises that we now live in a society with an
aging workforce and the implications of this for local authorities
both in terms of employment and provision of services.
