Domestic Violence Reduction

Homelessness can be caused by victims fleeing domestic violence. Nationally one in eight cases of homelessness have an element of domestic violence. There is some work at both the strategic and operational level to address this wide ranging issue. More information on Homelessness in Waveney

The Waveney District Council Housing Options Service has a formal link through a dedicated officer in the team who has a remit for Local Domestic Violence Services. You can email them at: stella.wilton@waveney.gov.uk  

The Housing Options team regularly refer applicants to ‘The Freedom Programme’. This programme works with victims of domestic violence to prevent future abusive relationships. You can also self refer onto the programme (see contact numbers below).

Some work is also being carried out at the County level through the Suffolk County Domestic Violence Forum at www.onesuffolk.co.uk/BreakThePattern

  • Broken Rainbow Helpline (Support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people experiencing domestic violence): 08452 60 44 60 or
    0300 999 LGBT (5428) This will allow callers using mobiles (often the safest way LGBT can contact us when they need to talk through domestic violence issues) to speak to us at a cheaper more transparent rate. Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.
