Premises licensed to supply alcohol for consumption on the
premises
Premises licensed to supply alcohol for consumption on the
premises, which have a bar at which alcohol is served for
consumption on the premises (without a requirement that alcohol is
served only with food) may apply for a permit for gambling
machines. These machines (amusements with prizes) were previously
licensed under s34 of the Gaming Act 1968.
Under the Gambling Act 2005 from 1st September 2007 these premises
will have an automatic entitlement to two machines and for this
there is a simple
notification procedure to the local
authority (Opens new window) (Waveney District
Council) and a one-off fee of £50 (there is no annual
fee).
For more than two machines you can
apply to the local authority (Opens new
window) (Waveney District Council) for a gaming machine
permit.
Waveney District Council has a policy that all applications for
more than two machines go before a panel of the Licensing
Committee. The applicant has the right to attend and make
representations both orally and in writing.
For full details on the entitlements please refer to the
publication issued by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport
‘Pubs and other alcohol licensed
premises’
Take aways, taxi offices and other non-food
premises
Under the Gambling Act 2005 fruit machines are to be phased out of
take away food shops and other non-arcade premises. Any such
premises can no longer apply for a permit and any existing permits
when expired (which will be in 2009 at the latest) cannot be
renewed. Please see the attached
Fact Sheet issued by the Department of
Culture, Media and Sport.
