Message from John Pawsey – Chair

“It is an honour to have been invited to chair the steering group
to set up the Active Waveney Sports Partnership in its inaugural
year. As the chairman of Waveney Gymnastics Club it is an
opportunity to work alongside other sporting organisations in the
area. So what is it all about and how will it work, I hear you
ask?
This is an opportunity for all aspects of our community to come
together and have a voice in the development of healthier
lifestyles and related issues through the vehicle of sport in the
Waveney area. Initially the Partnership will need to devise an
acceptable constitution, which all organisations can agree upon and
work with.
Through collaborative working relationships the intention is to
create the opportunity for local sporting groups to work more
closely together and have a real say in the way forward for the
community groups. Once the framework for the future has been
established, there should be a mechanism to assist organisations in
increasing participation in physical activities, strengthening
their organisations operational practices, helping and advising on
how to access funding, sharing good practice with other voluntary
and private sporting organisations and promote
advertising/marketing.
The Partnership will be a two tiered set up with a steering group
meeting at regular intervals throughout the year and partnership
members from the club representatives meeting twice a year to bring
their points to the steering group. This is a unique chance for all
sporting organisations, catering for every type of individual, from
the cradle to the grave to contribute to the way forward for active
physical activity in Waveney. This type of Sports Network is being
backed by Sport England throughout the whole country, so come along
and get involved. Don’t let your organisation miss out the benefits
of this network.”
