Sportshall Athletics Festivals

Sportshall Athletics has grown around the ethos of fair play, participation and team spirit.
The inaugural Suffolk Winter Sportshall Athletics League was launched at Northgate Sports Centre, Ipswich in October 2006. Over a hundred youngsters aged between 8 and 16, both able bodied and disabled, took part in a full programme of events which included sprints, hurdles, endurance races and relays, together with field events such as shot put, standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump and speed bounce.

This series of Sportshall Athletics Festivals continued with the next festival being held in Bury in November. Then, in December, the event took place at the Denes High School, Lowestoft where Waveney won their home match. Suffolk West were the overall winners at the regional finals in Norwich, with the Waveney Sportshall Athletics Team being well represented.
