2007 Waveney Sports Awards - Deadline for 2007 nominations (1st Jan to 31st Dec) is 31st March 2008


What The Scheme Is About


The Waveney Sports Awards are designed to reward people and organisations who have shown throughout the year that they have achieved notable success or made a significant contribution towards their chosen sport. Nominations will only be accepted for people and organisations residing and/or participating within the Waveney district area.

The judging panel includes representatives from the Active Waveney Sports Partnership, the Lowestoft & Beccles Schools Sports Partnership, the Lowestoft Journal and Waveney District Council, as well as the Voluntary Sports Sector.

Winners of the Waveney Sports Awards will be announced in the Lowestoft Journal and Beccles & Bungay Journal and together with their Sponsors, are invited to an Awards Presentation Evening during May.


Categories Of Award

  • Best junior sportsman (under 16)
  • Best junior sportswoman (under 16)
  • Best sportsman
  • Best sportswoman
  • Best team
  • Most valuable contribution to sport
  • Most valuable contribution to disabled sport
  • Most valuable contribution by a club to schools sport
  • Long service award

  • Criteria - which the judging panel will be taking into account:

    Best junior sportsman/sportswoman - Must be aged 15 years or less. Has achieved and/or performed to a high level consistently throughout the year. Has achieved notable success/successes while demonstrating exemplary principles of sportsmanship during the year.

    Best sportsman/sportswoman - Must be aged 16 years or more. Has achieved and/or performed to a high level consistently throughout the year. Has achieved notable success/successes while demonstrating exemplary principles of sportsmanship during the year.

    Best team - Team that has been the most successful and or progressed the most significantly throughout the year. There should be notable performances and successes during the year while demonstrating exemplary principles of sportsmanship during the year.

    Most valuable contribution to sport - Person or organisation that has made the most valuable contribution throughout the year towards a sport and/or club/organisation, in a non-playing capacity, eg administration, coaching, catering support, contribution to sport for minority group’s (equity) etc.

    Most valuable contribution to disabled sport - Person or organisation that has made the most valuable contribution towards sport for the disabled in a playing or non-playing capacity during the year.

    Most valuable contribution by a club to schools sport - Club that has made the most valuable contribution towards schools sport (eg after school club) during the year.

    Long service award - Person making the most valuable contribution towards sport over at least 10 years, in a non-playing capacity.

    Suffolk Sport logo In addition, Waveney Sports Awards Winners will automatically be put forward to the Suffolk Sports Awards 2008. (The ‘year’ runs from 01 September 2007 to 31 August 2008, although achievements beyond the past year can be referred to if relevant). The three finalists within each category will be invited to attend the Suffolk Sports Awards Ceremony at the end of October 2008.
