The importance of sport and physical exercise was played out in
spectacular fashion as the Royal Green was turned into a hive of
activity during Half Term week. For getting the positive message
across, Sport England's Everyday Sport Roadshow rolled into
Lowestoft on Bank Holiday Monday, 29 May. Well over 1000 people
turned out to take part in the inaugural staging of the event. With
the motto - "It only takes 30 Everyday Sport Minutes, five times a
week, to dramatically improve your health and happiness," locals
took up the challenge in what was a first for Waveney. And such was
the success of the day that organisers are now planning on making
this an annual event.
The official Roadshow, supported on a countywide basis by Suffolk
Sport - the County Sports Partnership for Suffolk - was hosted by
Waveney District Council in partnership with Sport England, CSV
Media and the Waveney Primary Care Trust. CSV Media co-ordinated
the distribution of information to the public, including the
distribution of 200 pedometers to people who have undertaken to
take up the message that physical activity promotes good health.
Five-A-Day fruit provided bananas, apples and satsumas as part of
this free event.

A unique Blendavenda smoothie maker
proved to be a real hit and with various activities, classes,
games and events all being held, the Royal Green was
transformed into a sporting arena. There were cricket
demonstrations, table tennis displays, boxing, football and
TAG rugby events, volleyball games, as well as advice from
Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Swimming Club, meant there was
something for everyone!
Add this to entertainment from The Cliffside Royalettes, a
basketball twirler, a mobile skate park and giant Connect 4 game,
sports and fitness demonstrations and cardio rehabilitation
classes, aerobics and boxacise taster sessions, sports massage,
Lifeguard demonstrations on the beach, a Mencap stand, face
painting and competitions to win free gym memberships/swims/free
pedometers/Five-A-Day fruit giveaways - the action was
non-stop!
