The SYG is the largest community multi sport festival in the county
and as such has become a focal point in Suffolk’s sporting
calendar.
For the fifth consecutive year, Redrow Homes is proudly sponsoring
the Suffolk Youth Games, building on its track record of
involvement in youth and community projects.
Around 1,000 children are expected to take part in the 2008 event,
which is being held on July 6th at Northgate Sports Centre and
Whitton Sports Centre (for badminton events only), in
Ipswich.
Looking ahead to the 2008 event and Redrow’s continuing support,
Tracy Brownlow, event manager of Suffolk Youth Games, said: “The
Suffolk Youth Games is the largest community multi sport festival
in the county and as such has become a focal point in Suffolk’s
sporting calendar.
“This year we will have more competitive sports than ever before.
There will also be a ‘Get Back Into Sport’ demonstration agenda to
encourage adults to re-visit sports they may have previously
enjoyed, such as netball or hockey, and perhaps look to get
involved again. Spectators will be encouraged to come along in
their trainers and give the sports on offer a try!
“Redrow’s continued support of the Suffolk Youth Games gives an
opportunity to over 1,000 children to take part in high quality
coaching opportunities in a variety of sports within their local
communities. Sponsorship of this nature from a prominent local
company demonstrates Redrow’s commitment to providing support and
opportunities to the local community. ”
The games will include ten competitive sports for both able bodied
and disabled competitors, with children from the seven local
authority districts of Suffolk competing for victory.
Redrow has an excellent track record of its own in Suffolk, with
completed schemes at Neptune Marina and IP Central, in Ipswich, and
the recently finished Forum apartments in Bury St Edmunds. It’s
also heading for the finish line at Oakside Park, in Kesgrave,
which has proved very popular and has only a limited number of four
and five-bedroom detached family homes remaining for sale.
However, demand for the award-winning housebuilder’s quality
properties in the county will be satisfied with the forthcoming
Bramford Gardens, which will provide a stylish range of two-bedroom
apartments and two, three, and four-bedroom houses, just two miles
away from Ipswich town centre.
George Cronin, managing director of Redrow Homes (Eastern), said:
“The Suffolk Youth Games is something we are very proud to be
involved in, not least because it gives young people from across
the county the chance to unleash their sporting potential. It is
also a great opportunity for them to develop a positive attitude to
health and fitness, improve their self-esteem, and meet lots of new
people and hopefully make some lasting friendships along the
way.
“The Games have been a great success over the years and 2008
promises to be even better. It will be wonderful to see so many
youngsters competing again this year.”
Redrow is committed to helping young people through a number of
initiatives, including apprenticeships, graduate training,
mentoring in schools and the creation of a special health and
safety activity pack for use by primary pupils.
Also available is the Redrow Learning Web, an on-line resource with
modules for primary and secondary school pupils, which meets with
National Curriculum requirements and has been accredited by the
National Grid for Learning.
