For general booking information please visit our  Events and Open Space Bookings page

Waveney District Council aim to provide Parks and Open Spaces that people enjoy visiting and where they may take part in sport, entertainment, play with the family or just relax. We also aim to keep them all clean and well maintained as well as improving existing facilities where possible and increasing provision.

We look after Parks and Open Spaces throughout the District. Town and Parish Councils take care of some of the green areas within their local community. They vary widely in character ranging from the more formal Sparrows Nest and Kensington Gardens, with both landscape and sporting interest, to the more informal green spaces within housing developments and wildlife areas.

Our major parks have been provided from public funds and, in some cases, private benefactors, to give space that the community at large can enjoy. More recently new open spaces have been created as a consequence of new housing developments.

Our responsibilities include cutting the grass, caring for landscaped areas, flowers, and trees, and maintaining sports facilities, buildings, paths, fences etc.

Other facilities are provided within parks in partnership with lease holders and other organisations to provide cafes, museums, and other attractions.

We organise and encourage activities and events to use the facilities to the full.

To promote full and safe enjoyment of our main parks we employ Park Rangers to operate in them.

We are always pleased for people to sponsor a tree or seat in commemoration of an event or loved one.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PARKS

Parks and Open Spaces are places which give enormous pleasure and enjoyment to people. They are greatly used and valued by local people and visitors.

The Council actively seeks people's opinions and expectations of parks and we are very interested to find out what you think of our Parks and Open Spaces. The information collected is used for the development of existing parks and new parks, as far as budgets will allow.

We look to actively increase the number of these public areas throughout the District and continue to improve existing ones when funding is available.
