The Future of our Caravan Sites
After several years of high profile debate regarding the future
of the North Denes Caravan Site in Lowestoft, Full Council approved
the note on Implementation for the site on September 7th 2006. Work
will now begin to find a third party operator for the site to
ensure that it can re-open at the earliest opportunity, in line
with the newly adopted Note on Implementation.

Background
At a meeting of the Executive in 2002, Members approved the
principal to externalise both sites via lease agreements. A
Member/Officer Working Party was subsequently formed to draft the
conditions for this externalisation and other issues related to the
process.
Both caravan sites have been owned and managed by Waveney
District Council for many years and require substantial investment
to improve the quality of facilities offered, and to bring them up
to the standards required under the 1960 Caravan Site Control &
Development Act. This Act provides model conditions which were
updated in 1989. The resources required for such investment are not
available to the Authority.
Much work has taken place to move this issue forward to secure
the investment needed in the sites and there has been much public
interest in the caravan sites at both Southwold and Lowestoft. Many
people have requested copies of Working Party minutes and Committee
Reports on this subject, and in response to that, we have now made
the relevant public minutes, reports and press releases in relation
to this issue available on this website. These will be updated as
further meetings take place.
