The Strategic Housing Market Assessment
(HMA) for our sub-region was undertaken by Great Yarmouth Borough
Council and Waveney District Council working together.
Undertaken over 2006/2007 and responding to government guidance,
the Assessment is the result of extensive research, to which a
great many organisations and individuals contributed their
expertise, for which we are most grateful.
The HMA contributes to the Council's:
- housing policy and priorities
- housing aspects of their Local Development Frameworks
The Assessment also contains some key messages and information for
our range of partners and stakeholders, and for regional
funders.
The following documents provide a short overview of the main
headline conclusions for the whole of the sub-region (the two
districts put together):
The
complete suite of documents which make up the housing market
assessment and form the background papers to the key conclusions
are available here and also on a free CD. They include:
- An analysis of the policy context for looking at local housing
markets
- A detailed overview of the housing situation in the sub-region
within the demographic, social and economic context
- Profiles of each of the 13 localities
- Detailed focus on specific housing issues such as the nature of
affordable housing requirements, the housing needs of hostel
dwellers, housing options for older people, accommodation needs of
minority groups
- How the assessment will be monitored and updated

The two authorities and their partners are keen to continue
building on the assessment, and have formed a stakeholder reference
group to assist with this work. It is our intention to publish an
annual update of key data for monitoring purposes – the first of
these is expected to be available winter 2008/9.
