Private Water Supplies

Waveney District Council has to classify wells, boreholes and any other private water supplies and sample them on a regular basis. The frequency of sampling depends on the number of people served by the supply and if they are used for commercial or domestic purposes.

Single domestic properties on a private water supply are likely to be sampled once every 15 years although we can test your supply, at your request, for a charge. You may wish to contact other analytical laboratories or water treatment companies to carry out the test, to compare charges, before you request us to do so.

Further information regarding private water supplies is available on the Drinking Water Inspectorate website at www.dwi.gov.uk

We strongly recommended that private water supplies and associated loft tanks are properly maintained. You may wish to employ a water treatment company to carry out maintenance for you.

If you have an enquiry regarding a private water supply please contact the private sector housing team on 01502 523119 or email us at ps.housing@waveney.gov.uk
