The awarding of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to London
has provided Britain with a major sporting, social, cultural and
business opportunity. Suffolk strongly backed the London 2012 bid
and as a partnership is now looking at the best ways in which we as
a County can make the most of the potential benefits of the 2012
Games.
A Suffolk Strategic Group has been established to coordinate
Suffolk's planning for the Games in close liaison with the national
and regional 2012 structures.
A wide range of partners (collectively named the Suffolk
Partnership Group) has produced a vision for Suffolk's ambition for
the 2012 Games and a more detailed delivery plan. Both documents
are in draft form at present.
People, Places and Purpose provides the vision of how the 2012
Games can both inspire local communities and provide an economic
and social legacy for the county.
Start...Succeed...Sustain proposes the priorities and actions for
the next three years, the first of a staged approach to delivering
a 2012 legacy for Suffolk. The key aims of the document include
increasing participation in sport and volunteering, growth in
tourism, business investment, increasing skills and to further
develop cultural activities within Suffolk.
The business plan has been developed alongside the Regional
Business Plan produced by EEDA and various regional partners.
The Suffolk Business Plan focuses on projects and actions that are
currently taking place or planned for the future, rather developing
new projects. This focus allows 2012 principles and themes to be
integrated into current work streams and consideration of the
impact and potential benefits of the Games to become part of future
strategic planning processes of all partner organisations.
