The Council can request deductions directly from certain benefits that a person may be receiving.

Although the Council can apply for these deductions, the decision to do so rests with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). They will be aware what the person is receiving and whether or not the attachment is acceptable.

The Council can presently request deductions from Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance, at a rate of £2.80 per week.
