At the moment, nearly 29,000 households have decided this is the
best way to pay their bill.
It is the method the Council would prefer you to use because the
cost of handling your payments is significantly less than if you
pay by any other method.
With Direct Debit there are of course no cheques to write, no
cash to find, paperwork or postage, as well as no queuing because
payments are made for you by your Bank or Building Society, but
only in accordance with your instructions.
Taking the paperwork out of payment allows our staff to give you
individual attention. If you miss a payment, we will ask why
instead of sending reminders. If we need to adjust your payments we
tell you well in advance.
Direct Debit is the only payment method that
comes with a guarantee.
As an incentive for you to change to payment by Direct Debit,
the Council can offer you a choice of payment dates, or even
payment over extra months, thus reducing your monthly bill.
The payment dates available are:
- 12 monthly payments from 1 April to 1 March
- 10 monthly payments from 1 April to 1 January
- 10 monthly payments from 8 April to 8 January
- 10 monthly payments from 15 April to 15 January
- 10 monthly payments from 25 April to 25 January
- 2 half-yearly payments on 1 April and 1 October
- 2 half-yearly payments on 8 April and 8 October
- 2 half-yearly payments on 15 April and 15 October
- 2 half-yearly payments on 25 April and 25 October
- 1 annual payment on 1 April
