You can appeal if you think:
- the Council is sending bills to the wrong
person;
- your home should be exempt
- the amount of the bill is incorrect because you should have
been awarded a
discount
- the amount of the bill is incorrect because you should have
been awarded a disabled
reduction
However you should continue to pay your original Council
Tax bill while your appeal is outstanding.
The appeals process
There are two stages to the appeals process.
Firstly you must write to the Council at the address
below stating which decision you are unhappy with and the
reasons why you are unhappy with the decision. The Council may
then write to you for further information. The Council has two
months in which to consider your representations and advise you of
its decision.

If you are still not happy with the decision or you do not
hear from the Council within two months then you have the
right to appeal to the Suffolk Valuation Tribunal. You must do
this within two months of receiving the Council's decision or
four months from when you lodged your original appeal with the
Council.
The Suffolk Valuation Tribunal is an independant

The tribunal will need you to set out the reasons for your appeal
and will then contact you to make arrangements for a formal
hearing. The hearing will usually last for no more than one
day. If both parties to the appeal agree, your case may be
dealt with by written representations. A tribunal hearing will
not cost you anything unless you choose to employ a solicitor or
other person to present your case.
If the tribunal decides in your favour, the Council will revise
your bill and adjust your payments as necessary
