Tourism Development
& Marketing is a key sector for the future economic
prosperity of Waveney. The District has Britain's most
easterly town, award winning beaches and the Broads. It also
has attractive and historic market towns, maritime and other
cultural heritage and history. The area has several major
commercial tourism attractions and a wide range of holiday
accommodation. Bungay Town Council is pioneering the
development of "heritage tourism" in the market towns and the
District has a sound base on which to develop a thriving
tourism sector.
Market towns such as Beccles and Halesworth, seaside resorts
such as Southwold and other attractive villages within Waveney
combine to provide visitors with a wide range of activities.
Waveney District Council's Tourism Marketing & Development
Team produces a comprehensive ongoing three yearly Tourism
Strategy, which covers all aspects including research, visitor
surveys, marketing, regeneration and action plans, and is involved
in the production of Local Tourism guides and web site
provision.
The Tourism Section, within the Economic Regeneration Unit,
plays a vital role in developing Waveney's Tourism Sector. The
Section carries out market research which is used for development
work and in strategic planning, promoting, marketing and visitor
management.
Members of the unit are involved in developing and refining the
Tourism Strategy, formulating marketing plans and preparing PR
Tourism Publications and the Annual Visitor Guide.
There is considerable liaison with partners from the Public and
Private sectors regarding Product Development, bid preparation,
funding advice and project management. WDC interfaces with local
tourism operators through the Marketing Advisory Group. Objectives
for the unit include developing the Brand Identity for the District
('The Sunrise Coast'), promoting the Tourism Product and increasing
visitor awareness.
